Have you ever had an idea for a website, a game, or an app? Do you wonder how they actually work? We're here to show you that the world of technology is for everyone. It's a place where you can turn your ideas into reality. We invite every girl at our school to explore programming and see just how much fun it is to be a creator.
Think of programming as a superpower. It's the ability to bring ideas to life, to build something from nothing, and to automate boring tasks. Our courses are about so much more than sitting at a desk. We dive into:
Electronics: Building and programming physical devices.
Game Development: Designing and coding your own video games.
Websites with Databases: Creating dynamic, interactive websites.
Python: Learning a powerful language to build everything from small apps to complex systems.
And it’s all hands-on, creative, and fun. See below some projects done by Hargest Coding Girls!
You're not alone in this journey. We want to connect you with other amazing initiatives in New Zealand that are dedicated to empowering girls in technology.
A network and community for young women who are leaders and innovators. They run events and awards that can help you build your confidence and career.
This is an incredible opportunity for girls to spend a day in a tech company, shadowing a woman in the industry. It's a chance to see what a real tech job is like!
Check out the various events and groups that host coding workshops and competitions specifically for girls.
Thinking about university? There are some fantastic scholarships specifically for New Zealand girls who want to study programming or Computer Science. These can make a huge difference in your future.
Edna Waddell Undergraduate Scholarships for Women in Technology and Engineering: A scholarship of up to $5,000 for women entering their first year of study in technology and engineering at a New Zealand university.
Nicola Crowley Memorial Scholarship for Women in Computer Science: For women enrolled in their penultimate year of a BSc in Computer Science, Data Science, or Statistics at the University of Auckland. A scholarship of up to $8000.
Endace Women in Technology Scholarship: A $10,000 scholarship plus the potential for a work placement for full-time female students in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related fields at a New Zealand university.
The Girls in Games Scholarship at Media Design School: provides a $2,000 scholarship for female students in their first year of the Bachelor of Software Engineering (Game Programming) degree.
GCSB Women in STEM Scholarship: A $10,000 scholarship available to female students in their second or later year of full-time tertiary study in a STEM field.
This is where you'll see what's possible. These projects were all made by students just like you, showing that with a little code, you can build incredible things.
Our students' imaginations are the only limit when it comes to Python. They don't just solve math problems; they build cool, interactive programs. One student even made a "Choose Your Own Adventure" style story in Python, where the reader's decisions change the plot. Others have created fun math quizzes and even calculators with custom interfaces. You can create anything from a game to a useful tool, all with the power of code. Follow the links below to see the websites, apps, games and electronics outcomes all in action.

Electronics projects are all about seeing your ideas come to life. Our girls have tackled everything from mastering simple circuits to building their own Morse code generators and even diving into Augmented Reality (AR) glasses. These projects aren't just about learning how things work; they're about creating interactive, real-world tech from the ground up.
