At 6:30 a.m. we met at Bremen airport to catch our flight to Munich, where we changed planes to Madrid. Shortly after arrival the transfer bus took us to the Atocha train station, where our odyssey began. It took us about half an hour to find out, that the platform is announced only shortly before the train arrives. In Germany, we are used to train timetables including the platform and even where which carriage will be. That’s why we were wondering that a big bunch of people was standing at the top of the stairs although the stairs and the platforms were clear. After two relaxing hours of train ride we arrived in Valdepeñas, where we were welcomed by a school representative and brought to the hotel, where the teachers stayed. The students were picked up by their hosts.

On the first day of the mobility we met in our host school ‘IES Gregorio Prieto’ and were welcomed by the director. Then we made a tour through the school and were shown the winery, the olive oil production and visited various classes. In comparison to our school, the host school has many practical classes. A very interesting idea is a student company, where groups of students switch the different business divisions after some weeks to gain practical experience in every area. After a short break, project was presented by the Spanish coordinator. Afterwards every member of the project did a short presentation of their school.
In the afternoon we had lunch at the hotel and then visited the Bodega Corcovo de Valdepeñas followed by the mill museum. The museum is dedicated to Gregorio Prieto, an artist almost obsessed by windmills. He travelled through Europe and painted every windmill he saw. One of them was the Moulin Rouge in Paris.

In the morning we met in the 21st century classroom, a digitally equipped classroom, and worked on the organizational issues of the project. All members had to be registered in eTwinning and introduce themselves. Different tasks were assigned. Then we went to the city center where we were received by the Mayor of Valdepeñas. The reception was even broadcasted by TV. A bus picked us up in the city and brought us to the beautiful Lagunas de Ruidera. After enjoying the nature we had lunch at a local restaurant offering very delicious regional food. But the highlight of the day was the visit of the AF karting circuit in Tomelloso. Both students and teachers had so much fun racing against each other into the sunset. The last races took place under floodlights.

In the morning we met again in the 21st century classroom continuing our tasks. While the teachers had an organizational meeting, the students gave interviews for Castilla la Mancha Television. Then it was time for some practical activities in the workshop. We practiced the necessary tasks for building the frame of a kart. We formed international groups and assigned them to the different tasks. One group started by taking the measurements of an old kart frame and writing them down. This was also a good practice for using the caliper. Another group was cutting and bending the pipes for the frame. The next group learned the basics of welding sheets and the last one did some paint jobs. The groups switched the stations after some time so that every student could practice every task. After the work we were invited to a wonderful arranged dinner prepared and served by the students of IES Gregorio Prieto. Unfortunately the practical work and the dinner both took longer than planned, so that the visit of the bullring and the Gymkana (some kind of scavenger hunt) had to be cancelled.

Thursday morning we left early by bus to Puertollano, where we visited the National Hydrogen Centre. Firstly, we were shown a presentation about the centre itself, the current energy situation and of course about hydrogen. The presentation included the properties, production, storage, transformation and final use of hydrogen. The staff members showed us some small exhibitions and experiments and the some students had to build circuits with fuel cells. Then we visited the laboratories and saw a fuel cell test vehicle and the hydrogen filling station. After lunch we visited the small city of Almagro. We spent our free time walking through the city on our own searching for some souvenirs and met later to visit the historical comedy theater.

We met in the 21st century classroom for the last time. Our hosts thanked everyone for the good mobility and we said goodbye to each other. As the other schools left on Friday, they were brought to the station. But we booked our flights for Saturday, so we had the possibility to spent some time in the workshop again. The students and teachers deepened their experiences in welding (this time tubes were welded instead of sheets) and painting. But we also produced a glass fibre panel for a kart. The Spanish teachers were very patient and taught us everything we had to know. After some hours in the workshop it was time for us to say goodbye to our very kind hosts and we left IES Gregorio Prieto to explore Valdepeñas for the last time.

We left our hotel early to get the train to Madrid. Suddenly we felt like being back in Germany as the train did not arrive and it had a delay of two hours. We would have missed our flight if our helpful host had not ordered a taxi to take us to Madrid. So we caught our flight and after a stay at Munich airport we arrived safe and sound in Bremen at about 10 p.m.
