Today we went to Birgu to visit the Maritime museum and the St. Angelo fortress. On our way we saw a lot of awesome yachts in the harbour.
In the Maritime museum we saw a lot of interesting things. For example different types of boats, engineering drawings, boat builder's tools and over 100 year old unexploded german Torpedos.
Almost 500 years ago the former Castrum Maris (Castle by the sea) from the 12th century was turned into Fort St. Angelo by knights. Later it was used by the french and british army. Nowadays a real knight still lives there.

The third day started with a visit of the mechanical engineering labs of the university of Malta. Their approach to join engineering design and industrial design is called EngUstrial design. Amongst other things they design cases for makeup for a big manufacturer located in Malta for customers like Chanel. Form, material, surfacefeel and even the closing sound of the cases are important. We were shown a 3D printer for Titanium, which is used to print protheses.
They undertake research in black boxes for cars, which collect data during a crash, the flame distribution in combustion engines and develop a free piston engine.
The university of Malta also has a Formula Student team, which develops and builds racing cars with combustion engines.
After lunch at the Cliff in Dingli we visited Mdina fortress.
