Induction Mentor Development

This is a new national programme co-ordinated by regional consortia, utilising a range of delivery partners, in collaboration with Local Authorities.

Audience

This national induction mentor pathway is designed for all induction mentors supporting newly qualified

teachers through the induction process.

Purpose

There is an initial briefing session outlining roles and responsibilities followed by three half day sessions.

The programme is delivered over the Academic year and examines the professional standards for teaching and leadership in depth and the development of coaching and mentoring skills to support the induction process. The purpose of the sessions is to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding to become an effective induction mentor.

Delivery method

This is an online programme facilitated through Microsoft teams delivered through the medium of Welsh and English. The programme will run from September 2023 to May 2024, with specific dates to be shared on consortia and LA websites. Delivery of the programme will be through interactive facilitated sessions on teams. Thesessions will be designed to address core aspects of the programme and to deal with questions. Each session will last no longer than two hours and will take place at a variety of times including twilights. Schools will need to release induction mentors from their responsibilities for these times, just as they would if a induction mentor were attending a face-to-face course.

This development programme will consist of 4 Sessions:

Session 1- National Induction Mentor Briefing

Session 2- From QTS to NQT: foundations necessary for an effective mentoring relationship

Session 3 - Reflective practice and professional conversations

Session 4 - NQT assessment and moderation expectations

In addition there will be opportunities for peer networking that will lead to sharing of ideas, peer

support and providing the opportunity to learn from others.
