Equity in Education

We design, develop and implement a cross regional approach to enable schools to reduce educational inequalities and improve inclusion for all.

Now more than ever it is important to understand how and why the challenging life circumstances many learners experience impacts on their wellbeing and readiness to learn. A clear understanding and commitment to Equity and Wellbeing in the classroom will help all learners to achieve and ensure that no learner is left behind.

At the heart of Curriculum for Wales is a commitment to developing all learners to be  healthy, confident, ethical, informed, enterprising, creative,  ambitious and capable. This can only be achieved if there is an understanding of, and commitment to, equity in education and the importance of learner wellbeing.

Equity in education means providing every learner with the resources, support and learning experiences that meet their needs enabling them to succeed. Individual and social circumstances should not be a barrier to fulfilling educational potential. Equity in education requires systems, at school, local and national level take account of, and respond to, the unique challenges that present themselves to individuals or groups of learners.
