Mentors
Central Idea: Passion, purpose or curiosity inspire us to lead and take action.
セントラルアイデア - 人は自分が持つパッション、才能、知識からインスピレーションを受け行動を起こすことができま
Mentors encourage and actively support the well-being and learning of students throughout the process of the Exhibition. Please see THIS slides presentation for more information about the mentor's role during the PYPx.
HIS Mentor role and responsibilities:
allow the mentee to have voice, choice and ownership throughout the Exhibition process
emphasise with their mentee that the focus is the process rather than the product
be available to meet with their mentee 1 - 2 times per week (in a 6-day schedule - 1 formal meeting and 1 coming into the classroom context). The need for these meetings may change further into the Exhibition process depending on the needs of the mentee
arrange relevant times/locations to meet with their mentee as determined by the mentor's schedule and ensure responsibility of attending the meeting at arranged times lies with the mentee
be supportive, encouraging, and provide feedback to their mentee throughout the process
help guide and monitor their mentee in their setting/accomplishment of specific tasks/weekly learning goals
suggest resources, help interpret difficult information, guide their mentee to facilitate interviews or Skype/telephone calls/emails
support mentee with developing their organisational skills, in particular, organising and filing relevant documentation, as needed.
be responsible for some aspects of formative assessments – provide opportunities for their mentee to reflect on their knowledge, understanding, approaches to learning (skills) and attributes of the learner profile in their Exhibition journal
communicate mentee successes and/or concerns to Year 6 teachers in a timely manner so they can follow up with the mentee

Mentor Meetings and Mentor Messages
During mentor meetings, we want students leading you. While this may be a difficult task for some, we are confident in the ability of our students to demonstrate and share their learning with you throughout this process. Please be aware of the following materials that our students should have available with them.
What Students will Bring:
laptop with process journal open (especially the mentor meeting conference slide)
writing utensil
class schedule (to schedule next meeting)
What Mentors will Bring:
writing utensil
a positive demeanour and encouraging disposition
a device (to access Google Drive)
The expectation will be that after your initial meeting, students will have this conferring slide filled out before they see you. Please encourage the student to take notes during the meeting.
