Key Objectives
Objectives for the Week
Create technology essential agreement
Identify different ways to organise my research digitally
Choose an issue or opportunity, confirm lines of inquiry (with teacher) & begin initial research
Connect with my learning community through the first ‘Present, Connect, Reflect’
Reflect on my progress with my learning goals
Present, Connect, Reflect # 1
On Thursday February 1 (E day), parents are invited to attend the first "Present, Connect, Reflect" session, which will take place in the grade 5 classroom.
These sessions are very important for both parent and student. After sharing with their own parent, students will share with other parents from the classroom. This is a very valuable practise, as it helps to diversify the feedback that is given, and allows for more more creativity! Parents may know someone who the student can connect with, or make suggestions for child inquiry.
Thank you to all the parents who were able to make it to this session! We look forward to seeing you at the next one in March!
Self-Assessment (and setting new goals)
Technology Essential Agreement
Throughout the PYP Exhibition, students will be using their devices a lot more. In preparation for secondary school, students need to practise strong self-management skills when using technology. Here are the guidelines that the students have agreed to uphold throughout the Exhibition.
Concepts, Topics, Inquiry and Research
Students learned the difference between topics, concepts, inquiry and research this week. They also figured out when each is important throughout the PYP Exhibition process.
They explored Smoking through inquiry and research, and determined whether different big ideas were topics or concepts.
Choosing Topics
Many students had their topic choices whittled down to two at the beginning of the week. Students then asked questions, and made personal connections (whenever possible) to their two topics.
Some personal connections included:
"A lot of people in my family have experience in fires that have happened in their area." (Abigail about Wildfires)
"My grandfather has cancer now." (Kai Cho about Cancer)
As the week went on, students made some final decisions about their Exhibition focus. They then choose key and related concepts that were connected to their focus.
Here are some of the topics and lines of inquiry that students settled on for their PYPx Framework
