Going on tour is a deeply loved and long-running tradition for T. A. Blakelock’s Wind Ensemble, and this year they embarked on a 4-day journey to Montreal.
Many traditions were upheld before the group left, such as running around their coach bus three times and “Secret Friends.” Similar to Secret Santa, Secret Friends is where gifts, such as a chocolate bar or comical can of soup, can be given from one person to another throughout the trip.
Departing at 8 a.m., TAB’s Wind Ensemble, along with many others, took a 7-hour bus ride and arrived in Old Montreal, where they learned about the city’s history and landmarks. The group later grabbed dinner before arriving back at their hotel to rest.

The next day, the musicians took a ride to the Strathcona Music Building, where they participated in a clinic with Dr. Danielle Gaudry, receiving insightful music tips and techniques. Afterwards, the group walked to the Montreal Eaton Centre and did a bit of shopping on the way.

Shortly after, the group split into three teams to play some fun games of laser tag. With everyone being able to work together and take control of the area, this was both a fun and collaborative experience.
“I liked playing laser tag even though I got destroyed,” Audrey Cizauskas enthused.
Cooling down, TAB musicians headed to La Resto Banquise, eating a poutine dinner, chatting with each other and enjoying some bonding time. By the end of the day, the group went to watch the Montreal Symphony at Place des Arts, enjoying a calming orchestral performance.

On the third day, the group headed out to the Dream Circus. Here they participated in various amusing circus activities, such as trapezing, juggling, walking on stilts, and many more.

After the circus fun, the group explored Rue St. Catherine, a lively area, before heading to Quilles Rose Bowl for two rounds of bowling.
"Bowling was definitely my favourite part because everyone was celebrating everyone's success. I appreciate everybody's participation and enthusiasm during the trip," Mrs. Abbott remarked.

Finishing their evening, they travelled to the Sucrerie de la Montagne, a sugar shack with years of history. There, they experienced a tour of how all-natural maple products are made. The musicians also ate a delicious dinner and listened to a traditional performance using musical spoons.
"I liked looking at things in the city, everything was very cool and I liked walking around. The sugar shack went crazy too, the violin and guitar were amazing,” exclaimed Leo Hourahine.
“Yeah, I thought that the sugar shack was amazing too and the food was exquisite," added Patrick Muhlesien.

Ending their trip, the group checked out of their hotel and went to St. Viateur's Bagel Factory to grab classic Montreal bagels. Afterwards, they headed to their last stop: the Mount Royal Lookout, taking in the beautiful view of the city and some lovely photos.

After a fantastic trip filled with fun memories and a variety of new experiences, these musicians are excited for their next adventure.
“This was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. I got the chance to learn new music techniques, I got to bond with my fellow peers, and most importantly: unforgettable and humorous memories with my friends!” expressed Baran Rahimi.
