On Thursday, December 7th, the Music Department held their annual Winter Concert, filled with many talented and melodious performances. The event was held from 7 to 9 pm in TAB’s Studio Theatre.
Percussion Ensemble, led by TL Sutherland, started the show off in the dark, performing Vous Avez du Feu? by Emmanuel Sejourne, mesmerizing the audience with their rhythmic performance.
Shortly after, the endearing Ninth Credit class, led by Mrs. Abbott, took the stage with The Conquest by Ryan Meeber as well as Presto and Winter Winds by Robert Sheldon. Then, our exuberant Symphonic Winds, conducted by Mrs. Barry, performed Highlights of Jurassic Park, arranged by Johnnie Vinson, and Awaken, by Cait Nishimura.
Subsequently, Rock Band, led by Jack Pinette, busted out with Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) by U2 and Paranoid by Black Sabbath, hyping up the crowd.
To conclude the first half of the concert, our Jazz Band performed two pieces for the night: Paquito’s Revenge by Terry White, and a jazzy rendition of Tchaikovsky's classic festive tune, Nutcracker Rock, arranged by Mike Smukal.

Following closely, our melodic choir performed three more euphonious songs: Shchedryk, by Mykola Leontovych, also known as Carol of the Bells, sung in its original language, Ukrainian; It’s Quiet Uptown by Lin-Manuel Miranda from the musical Hamilton; and Valerie by Amy Winehouse.
Finally, the Wind Ensemble entered the stage with Danzas Cubanas by Robert Sheldon, capturing the crowd’s attention with its strong beginning and complex, jazzy melodies.

“I thought the Winter concert was pretty successful and I was especially proud of Rock Band for their hard work,” remarked grade 11 musician, Jack Pinette.
All in all, the passion and keen musicianship of all the performers contributed to an unforgettable Winter Concert.
