The CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning) Framework for Social Emotional Competencies outlines the five core competencies integral to any Social Emotional Learning approach:
Self- awareness
Self-management
Social awareness
Relationship skills
Responsible decision making
SELT topics are tied to these skills as well as the Haven Values and RULER Skills. The year always starts with building a strong sense of community and relationships and follows a set scope and sequence with units (and skills) purposely designed to build on each other through the year. Students in grades K-8 all experience the same units throughout the year, with lessons adjusted to each grade. Importantly, the structure of SELT and Advisory is specifically designed to be responsive to what is happening in the world and serves as a form to process and discuss real-life situations and students’ connected feelings.
SELT and Advisory Topics Include:
Self Regulation Skills
Organization
Emotion Recognition
Emotional Regulation
Skills for Learning
Empathy
Emotion Management/Conflict Resolution
Problem Solving
Bullying

Sexual Education and Healthy Relationship
