Responsive Classroom is an evidence-based approach to teaching and discipline that focuses on engaging academics, positive community, effective management, and developmental awareness. The approach is school-wide and proactive, ensuring that students have a consistent experience with different adults and in different classrooms throughout the day while still preserving teacher autonomy and creativity. For example, teachers will transition students or ask for student attention in the same way, and we use consistent hand symbols for yes, no, water, and bathroom; Morning Meeting is a consistent way to start the day, but each teacher is encouraged to do it in a way that is true to them and their students.
