Planning Questions
Are you working by yourself or in a team?
I am working with my classmate Ava.
What materials will you need for your project?
Keva Blocks, iPad, computer.
What is your plan to create in this project?
I am going to create a tower.
What unique qualities will your project have?
It will be able to balance and replicate a tower/temple.
I made my list of 10 and planning questions. I also started experimenting with the Keva blocks.
At the beginning we were planning on making a skyscraper but we decided that it would be to hard to we made a tower/temple instead.
We finished building our temple so we took it down and started building a house.
We made another house today
Today we made our videos and included all of the things we made with the blocks.
Today I made my reflection bringing this project to an end.
Using Keva blocks, iPad, and a computer, I created different structures with the unique factors because I thought it would be interesting to see how things are built and try to it it myself. Although it took a while to figure out how to do it and actually make it look good, it was a very fun project. We ended up making about 3 different structures with the blocks.
During this process, I learned how to build structures and make them stand on there own. It was hard to make them balance at first but then we started putting in supports and making more sturdy buildings. The skyscraper was very hard to achieve because we couldn't figure out what type of supports would be best for it.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Innovative Designer because I made and designed my own project and had to add things based off of what I thought looked best. It was very fun building and seeing what I could create with just wooden blocks.
A challenge I overcame on this project was making the structure balance enough so that they could stand on there own. I was able to do it by added different supports and brainstorming with my classmates. It was hard to keep the buildings up and standing strait.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the size of the structure we made. The reason why I would change it is because most of our projects were very small and easy to work with. I think it would be cool to make a giant skyscraper and see how many blocks I could add until it fell.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering Design CTE program at Hastings High School. Engineering design is something that I enjoy and I think I could definitely have a future with it. The process of engineering just fits in my mind and I understand it more than a lot of other things.
My project connects to careers in architecture because I am creating and designing different structure. I think this career would be really fun and interesting to work with. Overall I had a lot of fun with this project and I would definitely do it again.
