Planning Questions
Are you working by yourself or in a team?
I am working with my classmate Ava.
What materials will you need for your project?
Computer, iPad, embroidering machine, and some sort of fabric.
What is your plan to create in this project?
I want to Embroider a cute design onto a sweatshirt.
What unique qualities will your project have?
I get to put a design onto my own sweatshirt that I will wear to different places.
I watched the reference videos and learned a little bit about embroidering. I also made my list of ten and my planning questions.
I started experimented with the machine and made sure I knew what I was doing before I start my actual project.
I started to experiment even more today and almost started to embroider but ran out of time.
I figured out how to work the machine and almost started to make it. But the thread broke on the machine.
I made a lot of progress today and we finished two designs. We plan on bringing our t-shirts to work on tomorrow.
I was planning on bringing my T-shirts today but I forgot. So Instead I got some more practice and explored which designs I wanted to use.
I tried to do a design on a T-shirt but it didn't look the best at the end.
I tried to do a design on a sweatshirt but since the material was so thick the embroidery didn't look very good. I am planning on brining in a plain type of fabric to do my final project.
Today I made my final design onto a fabric square. There were some complications but in the end it turned out good.
I made my video and reflection today, bringing my embroidering project to an end.
Using and iPad, computer, embroidering machine, fabric, and thread, I created a small flower design that I could eventually turn into a patch. I did this because I had never used an embroidering machine and I think it's a good skill to know. This was a very fun experience and I learned so much from it.
During this process, I learned how to operate a embroidering machine. We had to watch a lot of videos about the machine so I could use it. During this process we had a recurring problem, the thread kept breaking. So we had to learn how to thread it correctly.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Innovative Designer because I picked out my own project and made my own improvements to it. I had so much fun experimented with this machine and making new things everyday.
A challenge I overcame on this project was threading the machine and bobbin. I was able to do it by watching tutorials and asking the teacher for help when I really needed it. This was frustrating at times but with the help of the videos and teacher I overcame this challenge.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the design and its difficulty. The reason why I would change it is because I would want to challenge myself and make something with more color/detail.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering Design CTE program at Hastings High School. This is because I Engineered or (made) it and I Designed it. Meaning I picked my design that I wanted to make.
My project connects to careers in Fashion because Fashion designers create and design all of their projects. They also share it with the world which is what I did with my project. Altogether embroidery and fashion design are very close to being the same thing with only small differences.
