Reflection

Using an iPad and two sphero minis , I created a race between two robots because I wanted to determine which of the robots was faster or if they were the same speed. I used a blue and a black sphero mini and made them drive forward as fast as they could using the code and determined the results by setting up a finish line. The result ended up being the blue sphero mini taking the race showing that it is indeed faster.
During this process, I learned that certain sphero minis are indeed faster than others. I also learned that the difference in speed differs greatly because of the newness of the mini. Finally, I learned that battery life and age may be the deciding factors in determining which is faster.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to computational thinker because I used technology to solve a problem. Also, I used technology to find the answer to my question.
A challenge I overcame on this project was finding someone else who was willing to help by coding a separate sphero mini. I was able to do it by asking around and finding someone to help. I also needed someone to record which I was also able to find.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change racing two coded robots. Instead I would race a coded robot and a hand driven robot. The reason why I would change it is because I think it would be more interesting to see which one is faster, or which one is easier to use.

My project connects to the computer programming CTE program at Hastings High School. My project connects to careers in game design, web development, and computer systems. It connects to these careers because I use electronics to program a device to do what I want it to.
