Design questions
Are you working by yourself or in a team?
In a team
What materials will you need for this project?
Cardboard, scissors, tape, aluminum foil, iPad (to take pictures), and
What is your plan to create this project?
I will use duct tape to put pieces of cardboard together and construct an arcade basketball hoop, then I will use aluminum foil to make our basketballs
The unique qualities of your project?
My project will use large amounts of duct tape to be held together, and will use aluminum foil as basketballs
I started with my list of good ideas and project planning
I began cutting and created a backboard, ball return, balls, and rims for my arcade basketball hoop.
I began cutting the legs for the hoop out to support it.
I began duct-taping the legs to the hoop (but since it was cut short by an assembly I didn't get too much done).
We decided to abandon the legs because our project's legs were destroyed, we decided to make it with a stand on the back and use it by setting it on a table.
Using cardboard, aluminum foil, and duct tape, I created an arcade basketball hoop because I wanted to build an enjoyable basketball-related experience. I also decided to make this in a team so we could get it finished a lot faster. We also all agreed on this to
During this process, I learned how to use cardboard scissors. I also learned that duct tape is a very easy-to-use resource on almost anything. Finally, I learned that cardboard basketball is much easier to make than I expected.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to innovative designer because, I built an original design using resources in the classroom. It also ties to innovative designer because I came up with an idea that is strictly my own, planned it out, and built it.
A challenge I overcame on this project was the legs being destroyed. I was able to do it by using a separate piece of cardboard and some string to build a support system for the backboard of the hoop. I also had to use even more duct tape to attach these together.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the fact that the legs were destroyed. The reason why I would change it is because had they not been destroyed the project would be able to stand without a table. Also, we spent a lot of time on the legs so it was wasted time.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the construction trades CTE program at Hastings High School. My project connects to careers in architecture, product design, and engineering. My project connects to these things because it requires planning out a design and constructing that design using original ideas.
