Employability Skills

At Hastings we really value the importance of Key employability Skills to succeed in work, life and in further education. We use "Your Game Plan" and "Skillsbuilder" to embed these soft skills that develop and promote aspirations, achievement and independence.

In addition, all students at Hastings follow a Character development programme throughout their time at the school delivered as part of the pastoral curriculum.

Throughout the programme are key employability skills are developed, based upon the 8 key skills of the Skills builder framework. Students complete a Personal Development Portfolio to  record these key skills as they are developed.

Teachers routinely reference these key skills in lessons and we are embedding them deeply into the curriculum across the school.

Year 10 mock interviews supported by local employers

Skillsometer

Thinking about skills, interests and the ways these can link to jobs can be a helpful first step in identifying possible future jobs. Once the user has completed the quiz they are given a short list of job suggestions that are most likely to be suited to their own particular skills and interests. Each job can be explored as a description is presented together with information on pay and hours.

Hastings High School's Character Development Programme

Events to support the Character development programme are held frequently to help engage and develop students employability skills.

This is supported and complemented by Personal development Day events and Extracurricular events, trips and visits.

All students in Year 10 complete a work experience placement and attend a mock interview event in school. Students leave us in Year 11 with a Personal Development folder, showcasing their achievements, and includes a careers profile, a curriculum vitae and a personal statement.
