Hastings High School places a high value on providing good quality careers education, information and guidance (CEIAG) advice to support students of all abilities. This is developed throughout a student’s time at the school and is always supportive of their aspirations, strengths and skills. The focus of the support is aimed at raising awareness of career pathways, career choices and securing suitable Post 16 destinations.
We aim to:
Prepare students for the transition to life beyond secondary school (higher education and the world of work)
Support students in making informed decisions which are suitable and ambitious for them
Provide students with well-rounded experiences relating to CEIAG
Develop characteristics e.g. social skills, communication, innovation, resilience and leadership which support high achieving students in the curriculum and as lifelong learners
Inspire and motivate students to develop their aspirations and become lifelong learners
Careers Curriculum Overview 2022-23
Careers education curriculum
Careers education is delivered via the Character Education programme within the school as a taught lesson under the context of "Living in the Wider World". The Careers curriculum is married up to both the 8 Gatsby Careers Benchmarks, and also the Careers Development Institute (CDI) Framework for career education. Other in year careers events and opportunities take place, alongside careers guidance meetings, to support our learners needs.
Longer term we are seeking Careermark accreditation.

Raising Aspirations
Each pupil has the opportunity to provide us with their future aspirations and goals. This information can then be used to identify specific opportunities for learners, and allow for the support and development throughout their time at the school.
Our Future Aspirations questionnaire for pupils can be accessed via this link.
Careers Events
Hastings arranges many extra curricular events to raise aspirations in students and provide careers insights and motivation. We also work in partnership employers to provide students with work experience placements and provide careers related opportunities such as the examples shown below. Careers opportunities are promoted via the Schools Weekly Newsletter and Bi Weekly "Careers Focus" publication at the top of this page.
