TeenTech

What is TeenTech?

TeenTech Live brings the exciting world of science and technology to your school or home.

Hosted by well- known science and technology reporters, our interactive sessions are fun, engaging and provide real context to learning, helping young people understand more about careers and the way exciting emerging technology is shaping all aspects of our lives.

Hastings pupils have been engaging with TEEN Tech events for a number of years, attending on site events at MIRA Technology Park and virtual events in school.

Students can also sign up for events at home - se the TeenTach website for more details.

Teen Tech Live Event 13-5-21

A number of students attended a virtual Teen Tech event in school in which they gained industry insights from local and national employers, and learned about technological developments in broadcasting, transport and automotive engineering.

Students were tasked with identifying a local or global problem, and then coming up with a  technological solution to the problem.

Abbie and Ellie came up with a design for a home smartmeter that not only monitored electricity usage, but also indicated the carbon footprint of their appliances and designed a plug for phone chargers that turned itself off once the device was fully charged.

Dan and Cameron designed a way to reduce litter. They designed a system in which barcodes on fast food packaging are scanned upon the point of sale, and then if the item is picked up as litter it can be scanned again and the litterer charged for the disposal and collection of their litter!

Students received feedback from their submissions from some leaders in technology innovation  (10 minutes onards in the clip below)
