Year 1 had the pleasure of inviting Firefighter, Mr Barton for a career talk. He explained his role and showed the children some equipment. The children were fascinated and asked lots of interesting questions. Year 1 have been focusing on the 'Sharing the Planet' theme, focusing on deforestation, so this linked well with their learning!
Nursery also had a visit from Mr Gregory who is a Firefighter. The children learned all about the job of a firefighter and how they are able to help us in the community.
Reception and Nursery had a visit from a Police Officer. They enjoyed finding out about the work of the police and the role of the police dog.
Mrs Barnes, who visited Year 6 last academic year to talk about her work as a structural engineer, kindly visited us again, but this time with Year 4, who absolutely loved testing out structures with spaghetti and marshmallows!
Dr Asha Konde gave a presentation to the whole school about her job as a Medical Scientist who works in the field of Breast Cancer research. Dr Konde was hugely inspirational and even linked her presentation to the PYP Learner Profile attributes and being a Happy, Positive Achiever!
Mrs Hollis came to speak to Year 6 about her work as a journalist, and in particular about the process of vote counting during a general election. The talk was very informative and we certainly learnt some interesting information about how voting slips are used!
In Nursery, we have been visited by a whole host of parents! Mr Marwaha came to talk about gardening, different vegetables and fruits and how they grow. Ms Nkrumah visited us to talk about being a care home nurse and how we can look after elderly people. Mrs Kumar talked to the children about her job as a nurse in a hospital and Mr Clitheroe came to talk to us about his job as a train driver! Thank you to all of these parents- you have helped to bring our learning to life!
On Friday 29th November, we were visited by Mr Clitheroe who works for South Eastern trains as a driver and driving instructor. We were able to find out all about his job as a driver and what he does as part of his instructor role. We were fascinated to find out how long it takes to become a driver and how much responsibility this comes with for every journey. The children in Year 5 asked some fantastic questions and we were able to learn about how to become a train driver but also other jobs within the transport system. Thank you Mr Clitheroe, it was a great talk.
