First grade students engage in a project focused on getting to know and showing appreciation for members of the HES community. The children will make a list of HES staff members whom they feel are not always noticed, thanked, or recognized for their hard work. They will explore and discuss what it means to interview someone, watch examples of professional interviews, and conduct practice interviews with surprise guests. After they develop their interview skills, the students will select an HES staff member to personally interview. Next, they will craft interview questions designed to help us learn more about these staff members, their role in our school community, and their interests and passions outside of work. Once the interviews are completed, the students will create an appreciation gallery to celebrate these important members of the HES community. The students will then create drawings of and carefully written biographies about their interviewees.
