Creating a New Organism

What happens when scientists discover new organisms? How do scientists know how to classify new organisms? Students gain further understanding of the classification system by creating a new organism and then using the dichotomous key to classify it. They use the engineering design process to accomplish this. They then write an essay about their findings. This is an end of unit project or it can be used throughout the unit as it fits.
