Data Analysis Projects

Collecting data, performing mathematical computations, analyzing data and graphing data are standards for Advanced Algebra and prerequisite skills for students to be successful in AP Biology. After I taught a unit on Statistics, which included making histograms, calculating mean, median, mode and standard deviation, students were assigned a project. Students had to submit a proposal and collect quantitative data from a sample of at least 30 people. After they collected their data, they did calculations, made a frequency table, histogram, box-and-whisker plot and had to summarize their data in a reflection paragraph as well as a video.

The purpose of this project was for students to apply the concepts in statistics to real world situations and to communicate their findings to an audience.
