Combining Art & Literacy:

Book Jackets

Our question for this project is “Can we promote the love and excitement for reading by designing a book jacket for a book we have enjoyed?”

Our first choice was the choosing of the book on which we based our original book jacket design. We visited the book room at HCMS and selected the book we wanted to plan our book jackets around. Next, we used our own personal artistic voice to plan our design for the book jacket, and put the plan into action. Our second choice was to choose a children’s book from the list of favorites given to us by Mrs. Meghan Harris and Mrs. Erin Gaines at HES. Again, we used artistic voice to design a line drawing for a coloring page to go into our class book.

Our book jackets were shared with the students and teachers of HCMS and displayed in the hall by the Media Center. Our finished coloring books were shared with all first grade students at Hartwell Elementary School.
