Nukes or No Nukes?
Throughout this project students will be placed into a meltdown situation to really experience the realities of what can happen when Nuclear power goes bad. They will also be exposed to the benefits of nuclear energy and in the end decide if they are pro or con nuclear energy.
This project will engage students by walking them through an actual meltdown procedure, watching and participating in a Ted Talk debate, then working as a team to develop their own ideas and opinions about nuclear energy. Students are able to dig deep into their own opinions of nuclear energy while being held to the debate rules and standards which allows for a more compassionate approach. This type of presentation also forces students to listen and appreciate the opinions of others.
Students will also be working multiple days to
revise and polish their arguments and opinions of
nuclear energy. They will get feedback from the rubric
and teacher comments as well as be allowed to
critique their arguments and revisit them through
rebuttals.
