Ah, yes, it’s that time of year again. The time of year when snarky little children pester their parents for the coolest new Halloween costumes, that time when fall winds roll in and millennial moms go crazy for their Starbucks Pumpkin Spice drinks, and the time when pumpkins decorate every doorstep and house. The time has finally come. October has returned, bringing Halloween with it. That means it is time for costumes. Tons and tons of costumes! At this time of year, one might hear people arguing about which costume is the best… and this article is here to answer that exact question! Let's dive deep into Halloween with a new article that will finally answer the question of which costume is truly the best.

Couples' Costumes

At the top of our list of interesting Halloween costumes are these fabulous couples' costumes. Almost everyone knows about the Yin-Yang symbol, which originated from an ancient Chinese philosophy that talks about attraction and balance between opposing forces. These people fit the description perfectly when it comes to opposites attract… which gives this costume a solid 9/10 for humor and creativity. This second couple's costume is perhaps the most humorous one that I have seen in a long time, and it is also derived from almost every dad’s favorite movie universe… Star Wars. New Star Wars movies and shows often come and go in popularity, but you can always find at least one Darth Vader at a school on Halloween. In the magazine Good Housekeeping, Marisa Lascala says, “If you're looking to do a group costume, Star Wars is perfect because there are so many heroes, villains, creatures, and droids.” Yeah, so many characters to choose from, and this couple picked Princess Leia and Jabba the Hutt. However, as a twist, the girlfriend is going as Jabba the Hutt, and the boyfriend as Leia. This is not a costume you see every day, and it is enough to get anyone laughing at the hilarity. Compared to the other couples' costume that will be highlighted in this article, this one definitely takes the cake. I give it a rating of 11/10, with an extra point for obvious reasons.

Best Friend Costumes

Now, not all people have a partner to dress up with, and are sadly forced to dress up alone… Unless that person has a group of friends to dress up with! Yes, next on the list are best friend costumes, and starting strong are the Life-Alert outfits. Have a clumsy friend who falls all the time? Have a friend who’s always helping their klutzy buddy? Not wanting to spend $80 on a Halloween costume? Well, that’s exactly what was going on with these friends, so they decided to throw on a grandma wig, an old cardigan sweater, a skirt, and a quickly designed cardboard sign to create this life-saving outfit. 8.5/10 for creativity, but it could use a little something more to make the Life Alert Button pop more. Next on the friend costume list is another classic… The Sanderson Sisters. Three witches who captured the heart of America, (and a bunch of kids), make their return every Halloween in the form of a three-person group costume. You have the dumb blonde, Sarah, the slightly smarter rule follower, Mary, and the witchiest of the group, Winnifred. Plenty of people love the Sanderson sisters, but it is not a very common costume to see amongst high schoolers, which is why it is being rated 9.5/10 for detail and pizzazz… After all, if it was rated any lower, then they might put a spell on you!

Single Costumes

While all of the above ideas are great, the list has so far left out one-person costumes. Not everyone has a Ken to their Barbie, or vice versa, and not everyone has friends who want to dress up with them or even dress up at all. In this case, there are always visually pleasing single-person costumes! Rub that magic lamp and get three wishes ready, because the Genie is the first single costume of this article! Not everyone can pull off this magical guy, but the person on the upper right definitely nailed it. With a full coat of blue body paint, a black beard and extravagant ponytail, gold accessories, and perhaps the most magical part of this costume-- the cotton balls and blue fairy lights-- the Genie’s magical transformation scene is complete. 12/10, points for the glowing cotton balls, and the sheer dedication to the costume in general. The next costume is not nearly as extravagant as other costumes, but it still looks funny. Because if you truly are a lonely one-man band, then waving your arms like crazy and becoming the classic waving tube guy is right up your lonely Halloween alley. This one gets a 6/10 since it is funny but not very creative.

Man's Best Friend Costumes

Last on the ratings list is another kind of best friend costume… Man’s best friend. That’s right. Now the ratings will be focused on adorable dogs dressing up with their humans for Halloween. According to an article by Sophia Carabello on Woman’s Day, “Costumes from this film will always be timeless, iconic, and cool.” What film is she talking about? Why, the Wizard of Oz of course! Throw on your ruby red slippers, click your heels, follow the yellow brick road, and grab your trusty dog to become Toto. These are all of the best elements to become Dorothy Gale and Toto for Halloween! This outfit will never grow old, which gives it a solid rating of 9/10, because you simply can’t get rid of the charm of this outfit, no matter what year it is. However, maybe instead of going for iconic and classic, you want to go for something ironic and hilarious instead… So about a classic role switch of mail carrier and dog. That’s right, the dog is the mail carrier now and the human is the dog. Oh, the irony. Plenty of people have heard about this idea, but most have never seen it come to life, making this a more uncommon outfit, which also makes it funnier by default. This human and dog duo gets a solid rating of 8/10 for humor, which makes it a great outfit for a Halloween where someone and their furry friend have no ideas for costumes.

Finally, we have reached the end of all of the ratings. The conclusion of this article is: go big or go home. Dress up and have fun for Halloween! The more thought-out and fun your costume is, the better. Whether you are dressing up with friends, a partner, by your lonesome, or with a trusted pet, you should always try and have as much fun with Halloween as possible. Don’t wait until the last minute, as a good Halloween costume needs plenty of preparation and time. Go out there and seize Halloween with a fun and rare costume, and don’t forget to collect as much candy as possible!
