2023 will be a cinematic year for gamers to remember, between the release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Resident Evil: Death Island, and more. After years of anticipation, fans have finally received the release date for the upcoming Five Nights at Freddy’s movie. Back in Apr. 2015, fans were first informed of the movie's announcement. Following nearly a decade of waiting, the movie's official release date has been confirmed. On Oct. 27, 2023, the Five Nights At Freddy’s movie will hit the big screens. There have been several roadblocks throughout the production process that have delayed the release of the horror game franchise's first movie adaptation.

Five Nights at Freddy’s is a horror game franchise created by Scott Cawthon. The franchise is made up of nine games in total, as well as a few additional spin-off games and other forms of media. The gameplay consists of a pizzeria known as Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, in which the player is a security guard working the night shift. The overall goal of the game is to survive five nights at the pizzeria, and the possessed animatronics lurking within it. William Afton, being the main antagonist, is both the co-founder and owner of Fazbear Entertainment. He is responsible for the murdering of several children, whose souls possess the animatronics, giving them life. Michael Afton is the eldest son of William Afton. Being the game's main protagonist, Michael’s main goal is to free the children's spirits from the animatronics and find his father.

The entire lore behind the Five Nights at Freddy’s game has significantly evolved throughout the release of games in the series. With major events such as the bite of 8'7, and the identities behind ‘purple guy’ or ‘the crying child’, the game has a very in-depth story to tell. According to IMBD, “Arguably, these delays have actually aided the Fnaf movie, allowing lore established much later to be included.” Many agree with this statement. The delays the movie has had to endure have actually aided its production in a way. The various impediments have given the game itself more time to evolve and develop, giving more lore for the movie to work off of. Nevertheless, the long wait has been frustrating.

So far, a few cast members have been announced. The movie's main character, Michael Afton, will be portrayed by Josh Hutcherson-- most commonly known for playing Peeta in The Hunger Games series. William Aftron will be portrayed by Matthew Lillard, most commonly known for his roles as Stu in Scream, and Shaggy in Scooby-doo. Based on what is known so far, many fans are looking forward to the cast's performance. Collider, an entertainment news source, states, “In a shocking turn of events, Five Nights at Freddy's received a PG-13 rating. The film might be a bit tamer than we originally anticipated.” The PG-13 rating has definitely surprised a few fans, who were expecting an R-rated film due to its horror genre. However, this should not doubt anyone, granted there are still many good horror movies that fall into the PG-13 category.

Overall, many fans have been looking forward to the release of the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie, and have developed exceedingly high expectations. This film will be the start of a big step into the evolution of the horror game franchise, and will also introduce new individuals into the fandom. After numerous delays, and just about a decade of waiting, the anticipation has ultimately come to an end.  Oct. 27th, 2023 will be a night for many Five Nights at Freddy’s fans to remember.
