Grants Pass HOrror Stories

By Jaxon Arnette

Grants Pass, Oregon seems to be a nice and cozy little town, but under its homey facade lay some absolute horrors. To truly capture the horrors that are in GP, a few Grants Pass High School students told The Scroll team about their most terrifying experiences in the town.

The Peanut Butter Boys

The Peanut Butter Boys noticed that they caught Koskela’s attention and quickly approached him. Not wanting to confront these strange creatures, Koskela just continued with his day and walked off. Koskela had already made an impression, though. The Peanut Butter Boys quickly walked after him, repeatedly saying, “Hey kid, you want some peanut butter?” Koskela’s calm and cool walk had turned into a brisk power walk. He kept walking, but The Peanut Butter Boys would not give up.

He got to the staircase on the math side of the core building and quickly ran up the stairs, skipping two steps to speed up his escape. As he got halfway up the stairs, he and The Peanut Butter Boys locked eyes and he was faced with true horror. The Peanut Butter Boys were now yelling, “Hey! Take some peanut butter now!” and they chucked handfuls of peanut butter at him. Koskela ran up the stairs with just a bit of peanut butter splattered on his leg. As he was finally on the second floor of the core building, he escaped The Peanut Butter Boys. Koskela had to go through complete panic and he said that, during this traumatic event, he: “felt like I was gonna get hurt and I feared that I was gonna have disgusting peanut butter all over me.”

That poor fella had no idea what was coming to him. We hope that he mentally recovers from this insane event and, hopefully, people will learn to not be so menacing to innocent people who are just trying to get on with their lives.

Creepy guy in the park

This next tale comes from another part of Grants Pass, and combines a personal experience of this author with our already-known Patrick Koskela and a new man named Trevor Judd. The trio was out late one night last summer in Allen Dale Park, just swinging on the swing set. Being very late in the night, the atmosphere was a bit eerie, but we eventually got over it. We were just having fun talking to each other like we always do when we saw a huge light shining in the distance. It was strange, but we didn't make too big of a deal of it until it started shining towards us. The light would continue to shine for around 30 seconds until it just vanished. We decided it was best to walk back to Koskela’s house as it was already late in the night and that suspicious event seemed like a good sign to go.

As we were walking away from the playground, we saw another light that looked like it could possibly be a headlamp. It was shining in our direction, just like the other light, and it was coming at us at a quick pace. These two strange occurrences of light were enough to get us to speed up our journey back to Koskela’s house. We frequently checked behind us, since the path to his house would require the mysterious light to be behind us. When we were almost out of the entire park, we looked back and saw a man just standing behind a tree. He peeped behind the tree in the most stereotypical way; it was almost funny how he was looking at us. In reality, though, this felt weird and we sped up our walk as much as we could without being too obvious that we were trying to get away from whoever had these lights. Eventually, we made our way through safe and wealthy neighborhoods so our fear of random strangers started to fade away.

After a few minutes of walking and frequent cautious looks behind us, the random guy was gone. We felt relieved but still wanted to get home and we luckily did. When asking Judd about how he was feeling during this experience, he said, “ I was about ready to run home if that guy got too close to us.” Koskela then had to say, “ Nothing like that ever happens to me, so it was kind of thrilling and terrifying.”

Who knows what that guy was up to but, hopefully, his reason for being there was completely unrelated to our presence in the park. Who knows what can be lurking in the dark when you think you are having fun with friends?

Grants Pass is certainly a strange town where a lot of freaky incidents occur. Even somewhere as safe as a little park can hold weird encounters that you won't forget. All the way from weird, peanut-butter-obsessed fiends to ominous figures in a park, Grants Pass is a place where you never know just what might happen.
