Dear Community Members,
This past month we hosted our first Mid Semester Conferences (MSC) of the year, a blended on-campus and online event for which we had tremendous Primary and Secondary student and parent involvement. These engagements support reflection and establishing goals for the next term, an essential activity enabling students to take agency in their education. Further, as MSCs were completed, we were greeted by our annual Fall Break, providing all community members with a well-deserved, much-needed week to rest, recharge and recover after an extremely active first term.
Since our last Kontak, we have been greeted by Reception, Year 11, and Year 12 Assemblies on Super Powers, Creativity and Being Reflective, Secondary Student-directed events for Mental Health Awareness Day, Breast Cancer Awareness Day, and the launching of the Primary School Soccer and the Secondary basketball and Volleyball seasons. Our Kindy-Reception, Primary, and Secondary Students have demonstrated their athleticism, creativity, spirit, and competitiveness at their respective Athletics Carnivals. Finally, off-campus field trips saw students venture out to local area museums to further enhance their campus-based learning efforts. Taking learning out of the classroom is furthered as Secondary Week Without Walls will take such engagements to the next level. During the days of November 28 to December 3, our Year 7 to 12 students choose from engaging on-campus, off-campus or self-directed Service as Action or Creativity, Action and Service related activities. We look forward with much anticipation to bringing back these experiences and activities into our regular calendar of events.
Through ongoing efforts, student-led initiatives and engagements, I further appreciate what makes our school a special place. These past two weeks, I have felt emersed by positive energy and engagement as I have both participated in and witnessed:
students coming together,
faculty and students engaging together,
our academic programmes are further complemented by activities involving student creativity, action and service.
Do we have creative students? Yes, we do! Action can be fun! Why not? Service can serve more than one purpose? Sure it can!
Three activities taking place / in the planning works highlight the positivity coursing through our campus and community:
Firstly, the efforts of our Library Team and Book Week Planning committee, complemented by the planning efforts of the GJS Student Council and our PTA, have afforded us a full week of celebration of books and reading with a hint of seasonal flair thanks to Halloween. From our character and costume parade, through educational activities across divisions, to guest speakers and Puppertaria shows and Book Sales, our event was supported with PTA decorations, merchandise and food sales, and Student Council Halloween-themed haunted house and movie night. Thank you to all collaborators for making this week supportive of our teaching and learning efforts, as well as memorable and fun for all. Please see the Library Kontak page for Book Week details.
Next, a group of teachers and students representing our Primary and Secondary Environmental Committee have driven agency and investigation to concrete action. Our student leaders, supported by GJS faculty, have mapped a pathway forward for Global Jaya School to become a more sustainable and environmentally campus and, through our efforts, EARN local, national and international certification and recognition for our efforts. The first step is the local and national certification efforts through Adiwiyata. Please see the Green School Committee Kontak page for further details.
Finally, I applaud the efforts of our Secondary Student council, who are in the midst of planning HawksCup, a student-planned and operated multi-sport interschool athletics competition to be held on the GJS Campus on December 7-10. These types of events, ones that raise student AND school spirit, as live on-campus events, have been absent and are long overdue. I look forward to cheering on our GJS Hawks athletes as they form their teams and compete with students from other schools.
Our Admissions team continues accepting and processing applications for both the current 2022-2023 as well as next 2023-2024 academic year. Our next admissions event will be our Open House days being held this coming November 24th and 25th for prospective students and their families, allowing us an opportunity to share all that is special about our school, our community and why a Global Jaya School education is the best option for their children.
If you have friends and/or family interested in learning more about joining our community, please encourage them to contact Ibu Kania, our GJS Admissions officer, at admissions@globaljaya.com or by phone at +62 21 745 7562 Ext.154. They will then receive an email with a link to the electronic application. Remember that we continue to offer the 5% tuition fee discount (limit of one discount per family) when one of your referred families enrols their child(ren) at GJS.
Kindly Note that our final Kontak of the first semester will be issued on Friday December 16th. Please take note of the upcoming events and engagements that are spread over the months of November and December. Updated and further information prior to the December Kontak publication will be shared out via Managebac as always.
