For this second unit of inquiry, the Kindergarten students are learning about their relationships with the people around them. Students engaged in a prior knowledge activity during the first week of Term 2 to show their vocabulary knowledge connected to who they are. Teachers shared two posters of familiar characters, Peppa Pig and Blippi, to provoke thinking about the similarities and differences they have with the two characters. It was great to hear their thoughts during the first discussion and witness how some could think critically. The teachers recorded what the students shared and used this data to plan upcoming learning engagements.
During Book Week, Kindergarten students had the chance to continue developing their love of reading by dressing up as their favorite characters and sharing stories they enjoy with someone. Students took turns looking at their classmates' storybooks and enjoyed commenting on the stories. Later in the week, our students joined a Buddy Reading activity with Secondary students to build relationships and comprehension skills. Our children brought their favorite books from the class reading shelf and shared them with their big brothers and sisters so they could read the stories to them. Students experienced how we can share the love of reading with anyone and enjoy stories with new people.
