As Year 2 explores our current unit (Who We Are), we have been inquiring into various ways to be healthy.
Wellbeing (being well) is an essential part of being healthy, as it is important for our heart and mind to be content and comfortable.
We have explored various wellbeing strategies that we might like to use when we are feeling angry, upset, frustrated, lonely, overwhelmed, or overly excited. By practising and building these strategies into our everyday lives, we have a good toolkit of wellbeing ideas to use when we need them.
After exploring, students tried to create their own breathing boards. Try some of their creations by watching the videos below:
After exploring a variety of different mindfulness strategies, students then created their own calm down caterpillar to show their top 5 strategies for wellbeing. We practised our fine motor and presentation skills.
Another way to be healthy is to make sure we keep good hygiene. To explore further into dental hygiene, Year 2 carried out an EGGsperiment. We used the Scientific Method to find out what different liquids do to our teeth.
To consolidate our knowledge and learning, Year 2 are now working on their Health Fest. Each of us has chosen an area of health (nutrition, exercise, hygiene or wellbeing) and will create a demonstration and presentation about that topic for our friends to learn more about. We are developing as COMMUNICATORS, and are sharing our PERSPECTIVE on healthy choices.
