After missing out on two years because of the pandemic, we were finally able to have the Primary Athletics Carnival. We started the events with kindergarten and reception, then continued with grades 1 to 6 over 2 days. The students participated in the events as representatives from the houses, Garuda (red), Rajawali (blue), and Elang (green).
On Monday, our kindergarten and reception students participated in athletic game events at various stations, the events including Hoop Transfer Game, obstacle Course, Balloon Keepy Up, standing long jump, parachute, 25M run challenges, bean bag toss, Juggling softballs, egg and spoon. The students in kindergarten and reception showed great participation during the whole day.
On Tuesday, Grades 1 to 6 students participated in multiple events such as the long jump, high jump, 50 metres run, relay, javelin, and shotput modified for throwing. They competed according to their house, and students competed in events as they rotated through grades 1 to 6.
Here is the result of the athletic Carnival:
Rajawali
Garuda
Elang
Cheering results:
Rajawali
Elang and Garuda (tied)
During the events, students showed good sportsmanship and gave 100 % of their effort to help their house team earn the maximum points in each event. The most important aspect is that students were happy, having fun, and demonstrating their spirit during the events.
As a school, we understand that physical education is of great value and benefit to the students. It's an excellent opportunity for students to improve their fitness and develop physical cooperation and fairness. This will help them to build resilience, discipline, and healthy habits that will benefit them in the future.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents and family members who came to show their support and cheer the children, also a big thank you to the students who participated in the athletic carnival - you all put in a 100% effort on the day. Well Done! We would also like to thank all the GJS teachers and staff for their support throughout the day, making it fun for all the students.
It was great to have Years 7 - 12 participating in our Athletics Carnival. Students AND teachers had a great time competing in a range of different events while demonstrating tremendous school and house spirit.
Over the day students travelled around in the Grade levels competing in the High Jump, Shot Put, 100M, Discus, 400M, Relays, and a new addition the Tug - Of - War (by far the crowd favourite). All sporting events were hotly contested throughout the day with the houses battling back and forth , neck and neck during the competition.
However, before the results were announced, we were dazzled by the brilliant house team cheers. With limited time to practice and prepare, our brilliant House Captains, encouraged by the support from their house members, created and delivered some amazing cheers. This competition was also extremely close, with less than half a point separating the winning house from the other two houses.
For the Athletics part of the competition, the results were:
1st - Elang
2nd - Rajawali
3rd - Garuda
For the Cheering;
1st - Garuda
2nd - Rajawali and Elang
What a great day, we can not wait for our next carnival, Swimming, which will be held during Term 3.
Thank you to all the teachers who made the day great and the students for competing hard; you all are the reason why the day was so great!
This past 26th and 27th of October, Global Jaya School hosted its second annual Global Connect event. This time around, we had the great opportunity to host it on-site. Taking advantage of two full afternoons, our year 9, 10, 11 and 12 students attended and participated in talks, presentations, and a University Fair, held in our Theatre complex and MPH.
This year's theme was focused on "Networking", which led the way for speakers to share their experiences and many important tips on how to do good networking and highlighted the importance of having a network of contacts.
We were delighted to welcome back our Alumni, who joined us for talks, as guests in the audience, and those alumni who sent valuable messages in text or video format to our community. We thank you all!
Another important characteristic of our Global Connect this year is that it evolved, incorporating into the event program a Blended University Fair in which students had the opportunity of networking with different universities, both on-site and online, meet the representatives, and gain valuable information regarding the application processes.
If you still have not had the chance, please visit the Global Connect 2022 Website. And don't worry, if you missed the event, we will be back next year with Global Connect 2023!!!
A BIG thank you to all the attendees, guest speakers, and organizers who contributed to making this event a great success.
