At the beginning of Term 2, students started preparing their Culmination Project for UOI 2 (Sharing The Planet). The central idea of this unit is human activities can alter the relationships found within biomes.
The lines of inquiry are:
Characteristics of different biomes.
The relationships between living and non-living things within biomes.
How human activities impact biomes.
Teachers explained the requirements for being successful designing their projects. Students started by writing their plans for their project. They chose a biome to present. They then made a diorama and a poster.
Their poster needed to include a title, location, food web and how humans impact the biome (positive and negative impact), and their responsibility in helping to protect our environment.
For the diorama, they needed to include information on geographical features (landforms), climate/weather, plants, and animals.
The projects were completed in class. On Thursday, 24 October 2022, students presented their projects to their classmates.
This activity was a good opportunity for students to show their knowledge, creativity, and communication skills. Students demonstrated their enthusiasm for the environment through their presentation.
At the end of these presentations, students wrote a peer assessment for their friends. They also wrote a self-reflection for their presentation. These activities allowed for students to work on improving their presentation for the future.
Well done, students!
