Overview

Your student will be learning:

the amount of income depends on the time spent working, skills, education, and experience.
a budget can help to manage money earned.
credit is used to buy things you may not be able to afford otherwise.
money borrowed must be paid back, usually with interest.
money in a savings account can earn interest.

Green Street: Shmootz Happens

Your child will learn about setting goals, earning and budgeting money, saving and decision making, giving to a charity and borrowing and repaying money as they attempt to rescue and care for endangered animals.

Renegade Buggies

Your child will learn consumer strategies as they shop for groceries by comparing prices of items in order to get the best buy. Money saved from purchases can be used to buy accessories for their grocery store buggy.

Celebrity Calamity

Students act as financial advisors to overspending celebrities. The student must manage the budget, while also making sure the celebrity remains happy.

Save! The Game

In this app, your child will navigate through a virtual world, collecting money and trying to avoid buying impulse items.

- Road Trip to Savings. In the game, Road Trip to Savings, your child will make decisions about income, expenses, and savings.
Books
- The Monster Money Book by Loreen Leedy. A club of monsters learn about saving, spending and borrowing.
- Lemons and Lemonade: A Book about Supply and Demand by Nancy Loewen. While Karly is setting up a small business, she consequently learns the laws of supply and demand.
- Spend, Save, or Donate by Nancy Loewen. This book provides an example of children getting their allowance, and how they decide to spend, save, and donate their earnings.
- Johnny’s Decisions by Jeff Felardo. This book uses stories and kid friendly language to show that economics is about decision making and being fully informed of the outcomes or consequences of your decisions.
- What Can You Do with Money?: Earning, Spending, and Saving by Jennifer S. Larson. The author explains earning, spending, and saving money.
