Overview

Your student will be learning:

how to identify U.S. coins (pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters) by value and describe the relationships among them.

Example: 1 dime has the same value as 2 nickels, 1 nickel and five pennies, or 10 pennies

how to skip count by twos, fives, and tens to determine the amount of money in a collection of pennies, nickels, and/or dimes.

- Money Matters Series by Mary Hill. This series includes books on identifying the coins describing their attributes, and counting collections of coins.
- Lots and Lots of Coins by Margarette S. Reid. This book is an introduction to coin values.
- Pigs will be Pigs by Amy Axelrod. In this story, a coin family goes on a money hunt to have enough money to go out to dinner at a restaurant. Online read aloud.
