Tools Available to EVT and How to get Access:
Your design skills are only as good as the part is manufacturable. The best engineers can do both. For the tools the team manages please reach out to the person listed for the other tools follow the link to the Shed website for the online training then follow up with Henry Miller for the in-person training.
Laser Cutter-A powerful tool for making flat cutouts of objects. We use the laser cutter for Cardboard Aided Design and sheet metal parts. When working with the laser cutter it is important to make sure your part is not too thick for the laser you plan on using. The laser cutters need dxf files to cut.
Bandsaw-A good tool for cutting down stock or just making imprecise but complex cuts on parts. Make sure to deburr your parts afterwards as parts of the band saw are often sharp
Lathe-A giant fast moving spindle with sharp cutting wheels. It is the first tool required to start building everything else in the shop!
Bridgeport Mill-This is our workhorse, capable of cutting through the hardest steel with thou precision and enough patience most of the parts that comes out of our shop comes off of the mill
Belt Sander-For those hard to smooth burrs take it to the band saw capable of removing feet of material at time watch your fingers this one has a lot of kick.
Team Tools
3d Printer-We run a Bambu Carbon X-1 a very versatile printer capable of printing in everything from PLA to Carbon reinforced filament. We use it for printing our jigs to our waterproof enclosures. Angle Grinder-Capable of making the ugliest welds gorgeous and cutting away any pesky mistakes. The angle grinder is a tool we would keep in our back pocket but it is a touch too large. To learn more about this tool and to use please reach out to Henry Miller.
Welder-The only thing better than a coped tube is a welded tube. All of our chassis are literally glued together with molten metal courtesy of Catherine Angis. To get involved in the welding club and to pick up a rod yourself please contact Catherine and she will happily get you started.
