Topic Area: Handbook & Bullying/Harassment

Objective: Students will become familiar with handbook policies, focusing on Harassment & Bullying.

ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors Standard (s): B-LS 5: Apply media and technology skills. B- SMS 1: Demonstrate ability to assume responsibility.

Procedures:

1. Complete Handbook Lesson from Thursday, if needed. Handbook Lesson

2. View video below. Have a brief discussion regarding which person they would be....one that's steps in? Ignores? Waits for someone else?

Discuss how school culture is important to all of us and how being unkind to others has broad negative effects.

• Bullying/harassment of any kind should not be tolerated by any of us. If you see something, say something.

• Give students a couple minutes to brainstorm...Who are your "safe people" (people you can trust talking to about things like this)?

• Remind students that doing nothing because "someone else will do something" can create bigger issues for those suffering. What if it was your brother/sister/cousin/etc.?

3. Remind students they can report situations completely anonymously through forms on website, placing a note in a teacher, coach or counselors' mailbox.
