The Model Curriculum is a tool that provides educators with information that clarifies the learning standards

and sets the foundation for planning and developing instruction aligned to Ohio’s Learning Standards for English Language Arts.

Assessments

The Assessments webpage for English Language Arts contains a general overview outlining the different purposes of formative versus summative assessments, and then continues to house many of the same resources which can also be found in the Ohio's Assessment System portal. Please take some time to familiarize yourself with both portal so you can quickly and easily refer educators in the field to the assessment-related resources they may find valuable. There are a few documents about computer scoring for ELA that are included in the webpage, but not the testing portal.

What are the Vertical Alignments?

While exploring the standards for English Language Arts, take time to review the vertical alignments. These documents, represented by strand, show how the standards progress from kindergarten through grade 12 for each of the college and career readiness anchor standards. The ELA strands are: Reading Informational, Reading Literature, Reading Foundations, Writing, Speaking & Listening, and Language.
