Test Monitoring

Proctors play an important role in the success of each testing session. Proctors must follow the procedures below to ensure a consistent and positive candidate experience:

• A proctor must always be present in the lab. No proctor is permitted to leave the room without a replacement proctor unless an emergency exists.

• During testing, the proctor should be walking around the candidates to watch for cheating and to answer any candidate questions.

• Watch for possible technical issues with computer based testing.

• Ensure that candidates remain seated during the test.

• Collect and shred scratch paper (as applicable).

• Proctors may not eat during the testing session.

• Proctors may only allow test booklets, pencils and reference materials (as applicable) on the tables if administering a paper test. Proctors may allow NTN provided reference materials if the test type requires it.

• Personal belongings are not allowed inside the testing room.

Never leave a candidate at a testing computer without proctor supervision.

It takes seconds to connect a USB flash drive where a candidate could record an entire test. Proctors have full permission to watch computer screens. If a proctor sees a candidate on a website that is not the candidate’s test, stop the test and escort the candidate from the property.

Restroom Policy

For candidates, restroom breaks are not provided during test administrations.

Restroom breaks are not provided during test administrations. If a candidate requests to take a restroom break in a paper based exam/classroom style exam they should be allowed to excuse themselves and be informed that testing time will not be stopped. The procedures below must be followed for all candidates who elect to take a restroom break:

• Only one candidate may leave the room at a time.

• Candidates must give the proctor all test materials before leaving the testing lab.

• Questions or Instructions will not be repeated.

When a candidate requests a restroom break, it must be noted on a Restroom Log and kept in the Test Center's records for future reference if needed.

General Personal Belongings Policy

Some tests, such as Cosmetology, have individual personal belonging procedures, however the list below applies to all test centers.

• Remind candidates of items that are not allowed into the testing room.

• You may offer a location to store items or send candidates to their car to store their personal items.

• Candidates still found in possession of prohibited items will be removed from testing.
