Hey there! How many times has your teacher told you to 'Edit your work?'. The answer should be-A lot-. In this section of School; The Full On Guide to literacy, I'm going to teach you how to edit your work in a few easy steps. Let's get to it!
Editing is looking over your work to make sure that it is flawless. You should do editing every time you write something.
Step 1: The first step to good editing is to scan your work. Scanning is not reading the whole text over and over again until you're crazy. Scanning is slowly skimming your eyes through the text, on the look out for any obvious-at-first-sight mistakes.
Step 2: Once you've scanned, you may have already fixed some mistakes. If you have, there may be more, so make sure to do this! If you haven't you might just not have spotted them at first glance, so you should also do this! Ok, back to the point. You should now read (yes, properly read) the text and look for any harder-to-spot-mistakes.
Step 3: Now that you've done those two things, this last step is based on your judgement. If you found no mistakes at all, you're either a perfect writer or you didn't look very well. If you found 2-5 mistakes, you completed both the exercises (the writing and the editing) very well, and you should be proud! If you found 5-10 mistakes, you did well spotting them, but you probably should have paid more attention while you were writing. If you scored 10-15+, you should definitely consider practicing your writing skills.
