About the NYCoS Project

Building on our partnership with National Youth Choir of Scotland (www.nycos.co.uk) free singing sessions are offered to all East Lothian primary school pupils from P3-P7. Children are given the opportunity to attend a weekly singing session for approx 10 weeks in Spring / Summer, leading up to a full scale concert at one of The Brunton’s venues.

The aims of this project are for young people to enjoy singing, develop their musicianship, make friends and increase self confidence. Singing has been shown to positively affect mental health and well being, and contribute to higher achievement in other academic subjects. As well as learning songs, the children play musical games specifically designed to support the projects aims mentioned above. The games are an important part of the programme and a favourite with the children.
