An transdisciplinary unit is a sequence that covers the content of more than one subject. The PYP school year is divided into six, transdisciplinary units. The aim of transdisciplinary learning is to prepare students for the future world of work, which requires transdisciplinary skills and the ability to apply different areas of knowledge. Transdisciplinary learning encourages students to develop critical and creative thinking and to learn cooperation and problem-solving skills.
Global contexts are a way of approaching learning content. Contexts are repeated each year at each grade level. However, the content of the global contexts changes from year to year.
The six global contexts of the PYP are:
Who we are
Where we are in time and place
How we express ourselves
How the world works
How we organize ourselves
Sharing the planet
We study global contexts in sections. Each year group in the PYP has six units during the school year. The units link the objectives of the national curriculum to the global contexts of the PYP. The duration of each unit is 5-6 weeks.

In the IB programme, pupils carry out their own research at the end of the PYP programme. The end result is an exhibition work which is presented to the public in an exhibition.
