We follow the Finnish National Core Curriculum. The IB programmes give a framework for teaching and learning.
The grades from 1 to 6 follow the Primary Years Programme (PYP).
The teaching and learning are inquiry-based and follow the inquiry cycle: Inquiry, Action and Reflection.
We value the learner’s participation in learning. Pupils are encouraged to act, express themselves and take responsibility for their own learning. Pupils in all grades elect their class representatives for the pupil body from among themselves.
Our school follows the Finnish curriculum and collaboration between subjects is common at Ressu. The PYP school year is divided into six interdisciplinary research units lasting 5 to 6 weeks. The units combine the objectives of the national curriculum with the interdisciplinary PYP themes. The studies make use of the extensive expertise available in the Ressu community and the broad perspectives offered by the different subjects. Ressu Comprehensive School period plan
Each class has a class teacher and several subject teachers. The teachers work together in planning and implementing relevant interdisciplinary learning modules. There are also separate subject-specific learning modules.
The number of subject teachers increases as the pupils choose their optional subjects. The optional subjects are studied in mixed groups in both Finnish and English.
The IB is a global community of learners who believe that education can help unite and build a better, more peaceful world. This community includes the students, their families, school staff, other significant adults in the students' lives, and the wider community.
A learning community creates a shared understanding of the world. This promotes high-quality learning and teaching as well as the well-being of the learning community. The focus of learning is ongoing inquiry, action and reflection.
