What is Creativity?

Creativity is exploring and extending ideas, leading to an original or interpretive product or performance.

This aspect of CAS is interpreted as imaginatively as possible to cover a wide range of arts and other activities outside the normal curriculum which include creative thinking in the design and carrying out of service projects.

Music, theatre, film, design technology, visual arts, dance, fashion and other experiences that involve creative thinking fall under creativity (for example, joining a choir or engaging with fashion design).

Ideas for Creativity

• Write a script for a play

• Learn how to perform magic and put on a magic show

• Join a choir or participate in a musical

• Play a musical instrument in a band or orchestra

• Produce personal artwork

• Design posters for school advertising particular events

• Join a ballet or jazz class

• Organise a dance flash mob

• Participate in design projects to improve the local community

• Assist an NGO with designing a website or provide content for its website

• Make a documentary or a film

• Plan a film series for a senior centre

• Design reusable shopping bags with fashion flair

• Organize a school-based fashion show

• Design and produce children’s toys

• Redesign an organization’s brochures, business cards and logo

• Attend a course in journalism/poetry writing

• Create children’s books for schools in need of these resources

• Create a recipe book

• Document the results of cooking a new, challenging recipe once a week

• Support a group that raises money for small business loans for undeveloped countries

• Produce items for a school fair
