Bringing the Odyssey of the Mind thinking to our local EMS. Our wish was to challenge elders to think creatively in an effort to play a part in addressing the societal challenge of mental health issues found in those confined in an EMS (retirement home). We wanted to demonstrate positive citizenship through positive interactions with those in retirement homes, using teamwork and collaboration. We hoped to offer a model for school leaders and classmates on how we can begin locally, addressing citizenship. We wanted to apply what we have learned by being a part of the Odyssey of the Mind team, by taking it one step further and trying to communicate problem-solving skills with those challenged with mental health issues, such as dementia.
