SPOTLIGHTS

Liberty Magnet Spring Concert

Below is a link to the Liberty Magnet Combined Choir and Band Spring Concert 2021. Our students all came together (both virtual and in-person students) to put together a short concert to showcase what they have been working on this semester. There is so much talent present in these students and we cannot wait to see where the students will go in the coming years.

Juried High School Art Exhibition

Check out the Exhibit Opening of the Baton Rouge Gallery's Juried High School Art Exhibition. Congratulations to Ky Simpson, Erynn Cormier, and Mikayla Buenafe for getting their artwork into the "Real Life Experience." The art show will be on display at the Baton Rouge Gallery until April 29

Town Hall

Prior to the break, 20 students, nominated by their social studies teachers, participated in a Town Hall event with Senator Cassidy and several other state and locally elected officials. The town hall event was focused on how the federal government can/will support students and teachers in a post-pandemic learning environment.

Our students wrote their own questions and pressed for answers. We were proud of the work our students did in preparing for this meeting and participating in the dialogue with our elected representatives.

Check out our student's questions at the link below.

Patriot Baseball

Check out the article in last week's Advocate about our Liberty Patriot Baseball Team. Coach Hawke has done a great job in growing this program from "a box" to a first year varsity team. Click the picture below for a link to the article.

Louisiana Caring Communities Youth Survey

Each year students in 10th and 12th grade take part in an online survey on the topics of: substance abuse, school dropout, delinquency, and violence. These are completely anonymous surveys used by the state to collect data and allocate resources to address concerns confronting youth.

Previously, your students have completed these surveys in the 6th and 8th grades. The survey is set to be administered online later this week. If you do not want your student to participate in this anonymous survey, please complete the opt-out form linked here and send it to the school. This form also explains how the survey is conducted and how the information is used.

Students who have not completed the opt out form will complete the online survey in their social studies classes.

A copy of the survey is posted publicly here.

Grades and Conferences

Parents, now is the time to be talking to teachers about grades (email contacts below) and scheduling conferences. In a few weeks, it may be too late to impact grades. We will be following up in May with families of students on probation to discuss retention and revocation options.

End of Year Testing Schedule

The end of the year is quickly approaching, and with that comes about four weeks of state and national testing. Additionally, seniors and underclassmen have final exams.

Once we return, we only have two uninterrupted weeks of instruction before the testing cycle begins.

LEAP Testing: 4/26 - 4/29

  • Each test is offered one day indicated on the testing schedule.

  • All testing will be conducted ON SITE at Liberty Magnet

  • LEAP Scores count for 15% of the students final grade.

  • Only students who are testing will report to campus. All other students will be virtual.

  • Each test is offered once, so please make sure your student knows when they are testing.

  • For non-testers: some courses may have asynchronous lessons and some may have live scheduled virtual classes. Your teacher will post in Google Classroom which type of online class will be conducted each day.

AP Testing (5/3-5/17)

  • AP Testing is only for students who have paid their AP Fee online. AP Fees are due by Friday, April 16. Fee Bills were emailed to students in March.

  • AP Testing will NOT impact in-person instruction.

  • All AP tests are administered ON SITE at Liberty Magnet

  • Each test is only offered at the date and time posted.

  • Students must be on time or they will not be able to test.

  • Any students testing in the afternoon session (11:30) must have a ride home because the test will finish after dismissal.

Senior Exams (5/4-5/7)

  • Senior Exams will be taken at the scheduled time unless the student has a conflict with an AP Testing Assignment.

Final Exams (5/18-5/21)

  • All Final Exams will be taken at the scheduled times. Each test will be approximately 70 minutes in length. All tests will be taken on Early Dismissal Days (11:30am).

Senior Supplies Delivery - CHANGE IN DATE

Jostens has provided us a NEW pick-up date due to shipping delays. Seniors who purchased senior supplies through Jostens (and have paid their balances in full) can pick up supplies during both lunch shifts on Wednesday, April 14. Seniors can pay balances online or to Jostens on Wednesday, April14. Seniors who are unable to pick up at school can pick up supplies from the Jefferson Highway location after 4/14.

Prom Announcement

Due to low interest levels on the prom survey and district guidance, we will be unable to host a prom event this school year. Between COVID guidelines and the small number of students who indicated a willingness to purchase tickets, the event has been cancelled. We are committed to providing as many junior/senior memories as possible and are offering a low-cost option on the same scheduled date for juniors and seniors. On Friday, April 23rd from 7:30 - 10:00, we will host a "Movie on the Lawn." Bring your blankets, your lawn chairs, or your inflatables and we'll be showing a movie and provide upperclassmen an opportunity to make some socially-distanced and lasting high school memories. This will be a free event for Liberty Juniors and Seniors. We will have concessions for sale.
