Science

Mrs Deighton Science Y6 video.MOV

In year 7 Science you will do lots of experiments, and study the three main branches of Science – Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. You will need to stay curious, ask questions, and be ready to learn amazing facts about the world of Science. You will develop skills in practical work, scientific writing, and logical thought.

In Biology you will learn that living things are made from cells; and you will use the key ideas from that topic to help you understand about health and disease, how the brain communicates with the rest of your body, and how living things interact with their environment.

In Chemistry you will learn more about states of matter and the water cycle, different sorts of particle and how to separate mixtures –useful if you needed to make pure water from sea water if you were stuck on a desert island. You will also study acids and alkalis, and chemical reactions.

In Physics you will make electric circuits and electromagnets, and you will learn about the electricity in our homes and how we connect to the mains. You will study forces, mass, and weight, consider how much you would weigh on the moon, and how much strawberry laces stretch. You will study light and energy, and how we can generate electricity using renewable resources that produce less CO2.
