History

Mr Garnham tries to break the school record for reciting the Kings and Queens of England in order!

In History we are going to go on a journey, nearly 1000 years into the past. We are going to begin with a very famous battle called the Battle of Hastings. We will then look at how this battle changed England for many years to come. Did you know that the results of this battle affect the design of some of our most famous castles?

From there we will look at the kings which followed 1066 and how some laws were put in place. This was the start of today’s legal system and some laws created then are still around today.

We then take a journey to see one of the times many people around the world died; The Black Death. It’s not all doom and gloom! We will then look at The Tudors and especially Henry VIII (OK, there may be more doom and gloom there when we look at what he did to some of his wives).

After Year 7, you will follow the rest of history in a chronological order (this is one to look up in the dictionary if you not sure what it means). We will look at topics such as Slavery, The Titanic and World War I and II.

You may choose to take History as a GCSE and A-Level whereby you will learn about Elizabeth I, Medicine through time and Nazi Germany.

Where would you like to go today?

In Geography we start by learning map skills to help you understand and use maps and then we take a journey looking at all the different continents around the world. Do you know which one we live on?

We then look into something called a Biome (use a dictionary to look this up and see what it means). In each Biome we study we will look at its location, climate, the challenges of living there and also the benefits that it may bring us.

We then go on a journey around the UK studying about rivers, coasts and glaciers. Then to finish off we do an in depth study of a region of Africa.

Throughout your time at Outwood Academy Easingwold studying Geography, you will learn about a range of places such as Asia and the Middle East and how the worlds natural processes shape our land. Oh and before I forget, we look at some of the biggest earthquakes and volcanoes to ever hit the earth in recent times.

GCSE is very popular and students go on to learn about coasts, rivers, tropical rainforests, megacities, population and migration to name just a few.

Life

IMG_2666.MOV

Life will be a very important lesson on your timetable. In these lessons you will be encouraged to ask lots of questions, develop your critical thinking and reflect on your own ideas and where they have come from. You will also have opportunities to work with others to discuss and debate different views and we encourage you to learn from everyone around you. In Life lessons you will gain knowledge about the world you live in and learn skills that you will need to manage your lives in the future.

You will have a Life lesson once a week in Year 7 and in these lessons you will learn about:

  • A range of religious and non religious world views.

  • Philosophical questions about life, where we came from and our purpose.

  • Being an active citizen and how you can make a positive difference.

  • Life in modern Britain.

  • Being healthy.

At Outwood Academy Easingwold we want to help prepare you to understand yourself and your peers, to know about key aspects of this country and have an understanding of your role as a human on this planet. Life lessons are about exploring the essential aspects of your existence in a creative and meaningful way. We want you to be safe, respectful and responsible citizens.

We look forward to meeting you soon!

Miss Wikocki.
