Albert Bierstadt painted "Lake Lucerne" during his studies in Europe in 1858. The painting above depicts the alpine landscape of Lake Lucerne in Switzerland, and emphasizes it’s grand beauty to viewer. How curious it is then, to see it used here as a meme, assuring the viewer of his shallow mark in history. But what if we decided to reverse the message, and tell the image itself that someday it will be forgotten? Is nature likewise as ephemeral?

Will nature as we know it - as we hold it dear to us, be forgotten in the future? Many have been the indications telling us of the impending dangers not only to people, but to the Earth itself, due to the human action, pollution, food waste, water mismanagement, over population and energy consumption, which use up ever more of a finite amount of resources the planet has. As a species we consume way more resources than the Earth can manage, and this has a direct impact on many problems we (as a planet) face.
If we consider the grave situation we are creating, it becomes clear that something must be done. It is not a childish attitude to ask one’s self a simple question:
How can we save the world?
How can we save the world?
This new exhibit at the MuseOn seeks not only to focus on these problems we face, but also cast a light on the many ways we are already acting to change this scenario, and answering such a question. From ocean clean up projects, to seed banks that will guarantee plant diversity and novel, clean ways to produce and capture energy.
We are certainly not without action. But we are faced with some doubt as to if we are too late to mend our ways. Perhaps we can feed into our creativity in the wake of our own made adversity and find even more solutions. thus slowly making the image above return to becoming just a jest (and an imprecise one for that matter) because we will have proved that humanity can become even greater, by taking care of it’s own home.
