Let me ask you a hard question: Who are you?

Before you answer that, I want you to try to refrain from mentioning your name. That part, in this mental exercise, is not important. I want to know who you are. Who you really are.

What is the essence of you? This demands a bit of thought.

But what actually is 'you'? Or, for that matter, what is 'me'? And following this train of thought, we may even ask uncommon questions like “how do I know who I am”? Or even, “how do I know I know who I am”? Is this getting confusing? Splendid!

Being able to say who you really are is certainly a lifelong process. It takes time, and a lot of experience (as well as much trial and error) to be able to begin to answer this. And this is the starting point for the new MuseOn exhibit. It is also the first time that the MuseOn dives into the mechanics of the IB structure. 'Who We Are' is one of the transdisciplinary themes used in the PYP, and is coincidentally the first theme used this school year in many of the Lower School grades. But interestingly enough, the question of 'Who We Are' also seems to intersect other transdisciplinary themes if we look at them within a broader scope. Can't 'Who We Are' also connect with 'How We Express Ourselves'? Or also with 'Where We Are In Place And Time'? Could it also overlap with 'How The World Works' and even 'Sharing The Planet'? It seems so.

In this new MuseOn exhibit, we invite you to take a road in order to decode these very questions and provocations, beginning with exploring the brain and how we currently understand what consciousness is, to looking into genetics, biology, family history, social circles, and the role we play in the shaping of our surroundings and environment. We will also inquire as to how the idea of identity works in our current society, and how technology has changed the way we identify ourselves. Students will also be welcomed to express themselves after the visit by participating in the educational installation located in the middle of the exhibit space, voicing their identities through one of the three instruments. This way, we hope to assist each individual visitor in taking a step into this lifelong journey of self-discovery.
