Ask yourself a hard question: is truth really dead? If so, what was the cause of death? Today we could list several, complex (and not so complex) culprits. But first of all, how could one even suggest that truth might have died? We hold truth as one of the pillars of morale, good conduct, and a well-structured society. So what killed truth?

This is where Mendax comes in. This obtuse, loud, exaggerated, sparkling antihero divides the museum space with the exhibit itself. Why is he here? In this narrative/exhibit, Mendax (or just Mendi) is the brother of Truth, and Truth is in a coffin. So this exhibit and performance is also a funeral service. So why is Mendi commemorating? Is he relieved of Truth’s passing? Was Truth uncomfortable for him? Can it be uncomfortable for us all?

Is Mendax the overblown personification of how many of us feel towards raw truth? But Mendax is also trying to make us see something….a truth. He is trying to make evident that we not only avoid trivial truth and reality (the naked truth), but he reminds us of how we constantly want more than Truth...we want OUR truth, and at whatever cost. We want super truths, super realities that transcend what is actually in and around us. Mendax also pokes at how truth is being relativized, downplayed and altered, happening with things like Fake News, Deep Fakes, Science denial and so forth.

More truth than truth. This is what he wants to be. Is that also what you want?
